Millburn, NJ HS Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

national merit scholarship program
I can’t say enough about our fine school systems in Millburn, NJ.  Recently 17 Millburn HS students were selected as semifinalists in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Competition. These students are among the 16,000 semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship program. To qualify, approx. 1.5 million juniors from more than 22,000 US high schools took the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The number of semifinalists a state can have is proportional to that state’s percentage of the total number of graduating seniors in the country.

Approximately 90% of the semifinalists will most likely advance to the Finalist level. To become a finalist, the student must maintain a high academic performance, earn SAT scores that confirm their qualifying tests, and be recommended by their school Principal. They must also complete a detailed application.

More than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, giving them the title of “Merit Scholar”. All semifinalists will be considered for National Merit Scholarships. There are about 8300 scholarships available. Winners will be announced in Spring, 2014.
