Millburn High School: Students’ Perspective

Millburn High School: Students’ Perspective…

Hearing what the students have to say about life at Millburn High School is key to learning more about what sets the Millburn-Short Hills schools apart.  Many buyers are excited to learn that the Millburn-Short Hills school system provides an education that ranks among the best nationwide.  Shannon decided to find out what students Isaac, Julia and Morgan think about the opportunities afforded them at Millburn High School.  Julia participates in the prestigious, student run, a cappella group Soulfege, Isaac is Class President, and Morgan is a member of the Key Club.

From extra curriculars and sports to their favorite teachers, these freshman deliver the inside scoop.  Hear them describe their journey through the Millburn school system, from Kindergarten to High School.  Learn about the efforts the school is going to in order to negate the impact of the academic workload for the students, including the introduction of therapy dogs.  The dogs are brought in once a month to help relieve stress.  The video also contains top tips on the kids’ favorite places in town to eat and relax.

If you enjoy Shannon’s video, “Millburn High School: Students’ Perspective”, and would like to talk further about moving to Millburn Short Hills, please contact us and we will be happy to help you.

As the first in our series of Meet the Team posts, we invite you to learn a little more about Shannon Aronson…

Shannon has lived in Short Hills for eighteen years, and her three sons have all benefitted from the Millburn school system, and the activities and athletics offered in the community.

Education is important to Shannon, and as such she is now in her fourth year as Chair of the Board of Trustees for Millburn’s Education Foundation. Shannon also makes her mark further afield; through Solstice 620, the foundation she created with her husband David, Shannon organizes humanitarian relief efforts in Guatemala.

Did you know? Shannon is a singer and used to sing for local band, “The Mood Swings.”

Shannon and her team have won many accolades and ranked in the top 1% of producers in the state every year since 2009. Shannon believes this is, in large part, due to the concierge level service provided to their clients.

Insider tip? Shannon’s favorite area restaurant is Maplewood’s Lorena’s, her favorite watering hole is Moonshine in Millburn, and her gym of choice is Vita Athletics in Summit.

What’s next for Shannon? This fall, Shannon’s book “Don’t Give It Away” is being released. Written with the seller in mind, “Don’t Give It Away” is a guide to navigating the home selling process successfully, while keeping potential stressors to a minimum.

If you would like to talk about listing your home, or are considering a move to the area, please contact us, and Shannon and her team will gladly help you.

Fall Lawn Care Tips

fall lawn care2

With the end of summer right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about cooler temperatures and Fall. HomeAdvisor.com offers the following tips for cleaning up your yard so that it is ready for the new Fall season.

Fall Lawn Care Tips

  • Rake Leaves: It is important that you rake or mulch your leaves so they don’t kill the grass underneath them that you worked hard to have beautiful during the summer.
  • Fertilize Your Lawn: Putting fertilizer on your lawn now can make a big difference with how your yard will look next summer.
  • Aerate Your Lawn: Aeration helps fertilizer, water and air to get into your soil, all helping to keep a lawn healthy even during winter months.
  • Winterize Your Sprinklers: If there is water left in your sprinkler system, it could cause your pipes to crack or freeze and thus ruin your sprinkler system. It could cost over $1,000 to replace the system should that happen.
  • Clean Your Gutters: After the leaves begin to fall, be sure to check they haven’t blocked your gutters. Blocked gutters will hold water, and the weight could pull down your gutter system or even parts of your roof.

Millenials Are Buying Homes with Their Dogs in Mind

millennial dogs 2

According to a recent article on How Stuff Works.com, more millennials are buying homes with their dogs in mind! A 2016 study done my Mintel shows that 7 in 10 male millennials and 3 in 5 female millennials own dogs. In another survey completed by Harris Poll and SunTrust Mortgage, released late last month, it was found that as many as 33 percent of millennials who purchased their first home say they purchased a home to have more space and a better yard for their dogs. Additional survey results show that millennials are happy to spend money on their pooches, too. 76% of millennials say they like to splurge on such items as custom beds and expensive treats for their furry friends.

In a recent Facebook Live event, Shannon met with Laura Delli Paoli to talk to her about some of her favorite places in the area to take her dogs, as well as the reasons why she, as a millennial, purchased a home in the suburbs for a better life for her dogs. Click here to see the blog post.

Tips for Reducing Clutter in Your Home

Spring is almost here! With the arrival of Spring, some people like to do a good Spring cleaning! In preparation of that, you might want to take a look around and reduce some of the clutter that tends to build up. Below, House Logic offers some great tips for reducing clutter in your home. Thinking of selling? Reducing clutter in your home is a great way to get it ready for showings. Call us for more tips!

Tips for Reducing Clutter in Your Home

  1. Reduce Duplicates:  Sometimes you don’t need more than one of a certain type of item.  For those items that you do need multiples of, towels, for example, have some extras on hand, but don’t go overboard with too many.  House Logic suggests a good rule of thumb is having two per person.
  2. Keep Clutter from Expanding by reducing your storage space.
  3. Ignore Trends:  Fight the temptation to buy the latest and greatest gadget or decoration. Instead, purchase quality items that will last you a long time.
  4. A great way to keep things from piling up is to follow this rule:  When you buy something, get rid of something.
  5. Don’t purchase items that you will most likely use only once, or at most, very minimally.  Instead, see if you can borrow the item from someone.
  6. Get rid of paper clutter by going digital.  Many companies offer electronic billing or paperless statements.
  7. Buy less junk by avoiding bargain hunting.  Ask yourself if you really need that particular item, or if you really need one in every color just because it’s a “good deal”.
  8. Avoid piling things up on countertops.  Try to keep them free and clear!

All of these are great tips as we start to think about Spring and perhaps selling in the Spring Market.  Thinking of selling your homeContact us!  You can reach me by email at Shannon@ShannonAronson.com or by phone at 973.637.0004.
