Annual Millburn, NJ Fund Raiser, “Jake’s Ride”, Begins Sign-Ups

Annual Jake's Ride Millburn, NJOn Sunday, 9/28/14, Millburn, NJ will be host to the 7th annual “Jake’s Ride for Dystonia Research”. Organized by the Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia and Parkinson Foundation, the ride raises funds to fight dystonia, a rare neurological disorder related to Parkinson’s disease that causes uncontrollable and painful spasms. Millburn, NJ resident, Jake Silverman, 17, was diagnosed with the disorder in 2008. The disorder affects approximately 500,000 in North America. Jake underwent surgery for dystonia six years ago, and while he continues making progress, he is not yet cured.

It is estimated that over 1,000 participants will ride this year. The goal is to raise $400,000. Festivities for the day will include live entertainment, kids’ activities, food, and art. The event will be emceed by The Today Show and Morning Joe host, Willie Geist. Geist is also the foundation’s spokesperson. Willie’s father, Bill Geist, is battling Parkinson’s disease.
