The price that a seller is asking for their home is referred to as the “listing price”. The dollar amount the buyers are willing to pay for the home is the sold price. When we start to compare the listing and sold prices, it gives us a good idea of where the real estate market is heading. The median listing and sold property prices are calculated based on the market activity each month. They have decreased a bit in June of 2017. The median sold prices reached a low in November-December of 2016 and have been rising since, with a 12-month high in May of this year. Turtle Back Zoo Opens Lion and Hyena Exhibit

lion hyena exhibit turtle back zoo 2

On Tuesday, 6/13/17, the Turtle Back Zoo opened their Lion and Hyena Exhibit in the zoo’s African Adventure area. It is fitting to have lions in the Turtle Back Zoo as they are the main figure on the Essex County seal. The Ronald J. Mount lion and hyena exhibit is one half acre in size. Mount, after whom the exhibit is named, contributed generously to the “Bears in the Backyard” exhibit when it was built in 2005 at the Turtle Back Zoo. The bear exhibit was the first exhibit designed to house animals in areas that replicate their natural habitats. The Turtle Back Zoo partnered with members of the Mount family to turn Mount’s dream of having lions in the zoo into reality.

Exposed rock formations have been added to the lion and hyena exhibit as a means of attracting lions to three main viewing areas. A heated stone patio is also a part of the exhibit to encourage the lions to rest where visitors will have a great view!

Tips for Lowering Your Energy Expenditure

cutting energy costs2If you are seeking out tips for lowering your energy expenditure, check out these five things Gentec Services recommends to help you save money!  View the article in its entirety by clicking here.

  1. Clean or change your filters regularly:  Heating and cooling systems can contribute to over 50% of your energy costs.  Ensuring the filters are clean will help keep air flow sufficient whereas a dirty filter will slow it down, causing the system to work harder and cost you more money!
  2. Save on water bills with low-flow faucets and showerheads:  Replacing old water fixtures with low-flow faucets and showerheads can help you conserve your water usage and thus save you money.
  3. Reduce your water heater temperature:  Reducing the temperature to 130 degrees Fahrenheit, or wrapping your water storage tank in an insulated thermal blanket (to help retain the heat) are both good ways to save money.
  4. Use a programmable thermostat:  Using a programmable thermostat can save you up to 10% on your heating and cooling costs.
  5. Install a security alarm system:  Some alarm systems, when set, can trigger lights to turn off.  Using timers, sensors, etc to turn off lights and electronics you’re not using can help save on your power costs.

We hope you found these tips for lowering your energy expenditure helpful.  For additional homeowner tips, please be sure to visit my website at www.NJRealEstateDirect.com.  If you’re not yet a homeowner, but are considering taking that step into home ownership, please contact us!  We’d love to help you determine if now is the right time for you.  You can reach us by phone at 973-637-0004 or via email at Shannon@ShannonAronson.com.  Click here to search homes for sale.
