Millburn, NJ High School Pops ConcertOn Thursday, 4/3/14, the Millburn, NJ High School’s Music Department will be presenting its annual Pops Concert! This fabulous concert is open to the public free of charge. Light refreshments will be served by the Millburn, NJ High School’s Music Boosters.

Featured in the concert will be the Millburnaires and Millburnettes, conducted by Mr. Rodrigo Vega, Pops Strings, conducted by Mrs. Karen Conrad, Stage Band conducted by Ms. Mindy Scheierman, and Lab Jazz Band conducted by Mr. Matthew Spatz. A large variety of music will be featured in the show. Highlights include Bluegrass Fiddle Frenzy by Bill Monroe, Car Wash by Norman Whitfield, an Earth, Wind, and Fire medley, Treasure, by Bruno Mars, jazz standards, and much more. In other words . . . something for everyone!

Copies of professionally recorded CDs featuring the winter concerts will be available for sale at the Pops concert. In addition, people will be able to preorder CDs for the upcoming Night of Jazz and Spring concerts. At the concert, donations and Music Booster memerships will be accepted.

It’s tax season, and I want everyone to know that they have an opportunity to appeal their property taxes. Everyone in New Jersey has until April 1st to file a tax appeal, so this is the time to ask yourself if you’re paying more in property taxes than you really need to.  When your home is assessed for a property tax, the value that is determined by the assessor does not always accurately reflect its real market value. The value that the tax assessor places on your home is subject to debate, and this is where you can work with a Realtor and an attorney to appeal your taxes

  • Property assessments are carried out anywhere from every 1 to 10 years, so your home’s value may be way outdated and/or incorrect. 
  • You need to have a ballpark idea of what your home might be worth, and to do this you can certainly use me as a resource.
  • You should also look at what other homes in the area are worth, because this will directly affect the value of your home.
  • If you find that your home’s value is way off from other homes, then you probably have a good chance to have your property taxes changed.

If you meet with me and we both agree that you might have a valid argument, then I can refer you to a real estate attorney. The attorney will look over the situation and if he/she feels that you have a tax appeal that you can win, a certain percentage of your tax savings will be used as payment. Most real estate attorneys will not charge anything up front for this service. If they feel you cannot win, they will simply tell you that you do not have a valid case.
It’s also important to keep in mind that it may be a high tax rate – and not an incorrect home value – that is making your property taxes expensive.
